Privacy at the Core of Leenkat New Tab
Understand how Leenkat New Tab is designed to respect your privacy while providing a personalized and productive browser experience.
Leenkat New Tab is developed by Leenkat with privacy and transparency in mind. This Privacy Policy explains what information the extension may store or process, how that information is used, and the choices available to you when using Leenkat New Tab.
Leenkat New Tab is designed to provide a personalized and productive new tab experience while minimizing the collection and processing of personal information.
This policy applies specifically to the Leenkat New Tab Chrome extension and should be read separately from the general Privacy Policy governing the Leenkat website.
Information Stored by the Extension
Leenkat New Tab stores information required to provide and personalize your new tab experience. This information is created or configured by you while using the extension.
Depending on the features you use, this information may include:
- Saved Websites: Website names, URLs, custom logos, and related information used to display and organize your shortcuts.
- Website Organization: Information used to create and manage workspaces and organize websites across your workspaces and Website Library.
- Notes: Notes and other text content you choose to create within the extension.
- AI Prompts: Prompts, reusable variables, tags, and related content you choose to save and organize.
- Personalization Data: Background selections, colors, and custom background images or related local references that you choose to use within the extension.
- Preferences: Settings used to personalize the appearance and behavior of Leenkat New Tab.
- Display Name: The name you choose to use for the personalized greeting.
- Backup Data: Information included when you choose to create or restore a Leenkat New Tab backup.
How Your Information Is Used
Information stored or processed by Leenkat New Tab is used only to provide, maintain, and personalize the features you choose to use.
Leenkat New Tab may use this information to:
- Display Your Workspace: Show your saved websites, shortcuts, and personalized workspace configuration.
- Organize Your Content: Maintain the organization of websites, notes, AI prompts, and other content you create within the extension.
- Apply Your Preferences: Remember your selected settings and personalization choices across browsing sessions.
- Personalize Your Experience: Display your chosen name, greeting, and other customized elements of the new tab.
- Support Backup and Restore: Create and process backup files when you choose to download or restore your Leenkat New Tab data.
- Provide Extension Features: Process information when necessary to perform actions you initiate within the extension.
Leenkat New Tab does not use the content you create within the extension for advertising or marketing purposes.
How Your Data Is Stored
Leenkat New Tab uses local browser storage technologies to preserve the information, preferences, and supported local assets required for your workspace to function across browsing sessions.
The extension uses storage provided by the browser to maintain data associated with the features you use, including saved websites, workspace organization, notes, AI prompts, preferences, and personalization settings.
This allows Leenkat New Tab to restore your configured workspace whenever you open a new tab without requiring you to recreate your setup each time.
Backup files are created only when you choose to download a backup. Likewise, backup data is processed for restoration only when you initiate a restore through the extension.
Removing or resetting extension data may result in the loss of locally stored information. We recommend creating a backup before performing actions that may remove your saved data.
Third-Party Services
Some Leenkat New Tab features may interact with external websites or services when you choose to use them.
Leenkat New Tab may interact with third-party services as part of specific features or actions initiated by you.
- Search Providers: When you perform a web search, your search is directed to the search provider you have selected. Your interaction with that provider is subject to its own privacy policy and terms.
- Saved Websites: When you open a website from your workspace, you are leaving the extension and accessing that website directly. The website’s own privacy practices then apply.
- Website Icons: When Favicon mode is used, Leenkat New Tab sends the saved Website URL to Google’s favicon service to retrieve and display the corresponding website icon. This request is made directly by your browser. Google may also receive standard network information associated with the request, such as your IP address and browser request metadata.
When Custom URL mode is used, your browser requests the image directly from the URL you provide. Google’s favicon service is not used for Custom URL icons. If no valid remote icon is available or an icon fails to load, Leenkat New Tab may use a locally bundled fallback icon. - External Links: Leenkat New Tab may provide links to Leenkat resources or other external websites. Visiting those websites is subject to their respective privacy policies and terms.
Leenkat does not control the privacy practices of third-party websites or services. We encourage you to review their privacy policies when using those services.
How We Handle Data Sharing
Leenkat New Tab is designed to minimize unnecessary data sharing and keep your extension data focused on providing the features you choose to use.
Leenkat does not sell, rent, or trade the personal information or content you create within Leenkat New Tab.
Information stored by the extension is not shared with advertisers or used by Leenkat to build advertising profiles.
When you choose to use a feature that interacts with an external service—such as performing a web search, opening a saved website, or requesting website information—data necessary to complete that action may be processed by the relevant third-party service. These interactions are governed by that service’s own privacy policy and terms.
Leenkat may also disclose information when required to comply with applicable law, legal process, or a valid request from a competent authority, to the extent such information is available to Leenkat.
Data Retention and Deletion
You remain in control of the information you create and manage within Leenkat New Tab.
Data used by Leenkat New Tab is retained in browser storage for as long as it is needed to maintain your configured workspace and the features you choose to use.
You can modify or delete individual items, such as saved websites, notes, AI prompts, and other supported content, directly through the extension.
You may also use the available data management options to remove or replace stored information when supported by the extension.
Before removing data or making significant changes, you can download a backup of your Leenkat New Tab data using the built-in backup feature.
Uninstalling the extension or clearing its browser storage may permanently remove locally stored information. Leenkat cannot restore data that has been deleted from your browser unless you previously created a backup and retain access to that backup file.
Why Leenkat New Tab Uses Browser Permissions
Leenkat New Tab uses only the browser capabilities required to provide its features and maintain your personalized new tab experience.
The current version of Leenkat New Tab uses the storage, history, and favicon permissions.
These permissions are used to:
- Store Extension Data: The storage permission is used to save websites, workspaces, notes, AI prompts, preferences, and other supported information required for your Leenkat New Tab experience.
- Preserve Your Settings: The storage permission helps keep your preferences and workspace configuration available across browser sessions.
- Show Recently Visited Websites: The history permission is used to retrieve browsing history required for the Recently Visited feature. This allows Leenkat New Tab to display recent websites when you choose to use this feature.
- Display Website Icons: The favicon permission is used to display website icons for supported browsing history and website experiences.
- Support Core Functionality: These permissions provide the browser capabilities required for supported Leenkat New Tab features to operate as intended.
Leenkat New Tab does not use browser permissions for purposes unrelated to its functionality.
Permissions may change in future versions if new features require them. Any new permission will be introduced only when necessary to support specific product functionality and will be reflected in the extension’s documentation and privacy information.
